Dancing with Myself

Blogging to you fine people in my mosquitero (mosquito net)

Dancin´!

April 9, 2009

Guess what I did tonight? Yes, I danced – by myself in my room. It was quite energizing. I love the music here, but the merengue and the bachata was starting to get to me. So I turned on my itunes, cranked it up and blasted The Airborne Toxic Event (a shout out to you Daren! Hope you are out there living the dream! I miss you! And now I’m going to gratuitously advertise—check out their website http://www.theairbornetoxicevent.com/). And I danced HOW I WANTED!! (I’ve been taking dance lessons for the past couple weeks, trying to find my Latin rhythm. It can be discouraging at times to constantly be corrected and told to dance a certain way.)

For the first time in a while, I felt comfortable, myself, and at home. I almost forgot I’m living in another country. It was strange… for a moment I felt like I had a piece of pure happiness all to myself! Yet, I’m sure if anyone saw me, they would be like, “What’s that strange Americana doing?? I hope she doesn’t call that dancing!”

Anyway, I’m doing well here. I’ve really learned to appreciate even the smallest things. I partake in little pieces of “home” every once in a while – a Coke, a song, a movie. I finally got some American movies, so I’ve spent a couple happy nights falling asleep to them. In a place where I am a foreigner, the simplest pleasures from home mean so much (hint, hint to anyone who wants to send some LOVE! Haha…).

Happy (Belated) Easter!
